Dams for Africa design / build / rehabilitate water infrastructure such as irrigation canals, dams, weirs, reservoirs, irrigation systems, pipelines, boreholes, and ant-theft chambers (for safeguarding critical installations such as boreholes and pumps).

Wherever possible preference is given to rehabilitation of existing infrastructure as clearly this can be done at a fraction of the cost of supplying new equipment/infrastructure.

Dams for Africa have a light overhead structure that enables them to build at low cost. During a construction project local labour is employed to do the work, supervised by competent / experienced staff supplied by the company. Preference is given to labour intensive methods.

Dams for Africa also do consulting work such as investigations for clients who wish to know the cost of rehabilitation, or the viability of a project. Typically this involves a visit to a site, inspection of existing equipment / infrastructure, some design work and cost determinations back at the office, and finally a the submission of a report including recommendations.

Dams for Africa have also developed two relatively sophisticated Excel based mix design programs (see link to 'Concrete Mixes') which will be of interest to any construction company that uses large quantities of concrete, including companies specialising in precast concrete subject to rapid heat-curing for early turn around of moulds. In addition, and in line with the companies core value of empowering poor farmers, some simple mix designs are also given for use in typical rural infrastructure.

The director of the company is a qualified civil engineer with over 30 years' experienceexperience in manufacturing, contracting and consulting. He is knowlegeable in concrete and related structures, and is a specialist in the field of 'abrasion resistance of concrete'. In 2002 he was awarded a PhD for extensive investigations and research done in this field. See link to 'Abrasion Resistance' for further information on this aspect.

The company will consider any construction project in sub-Saharan Africa.
