A sump has been built at the pipeline/canal transition. The pipeline comes from the village dam, and a 1300m canal goes to the cultivated lands.

(1) Before : The pipe from the dam previously ended
in an open pit, followed by an earth canal.

(2) After : Cement blocks have been used for the pipe/canal transition sump. As the incoming pipe is lower than the outgoing canal, the sump serves as a level-raiser, and pressure breaker. It also acts as a sediment trap, so that the water going down the canal will be relatively free of solids.
