Rehabilitation of eroded spillways.

(1) The Village dam's spillway, which is cut into dispersive clay, was seriously eroded.

(2) The rehabilitated spillway - a 1,5m deep trench was excavated and filled with concrete as a cut-off. The trickle flow is now directed to the opposite side of the spillway - where the original channel had suffered minimal erosion.


(3) The Poplar dam's spillway, also cut into dispersive clay, was also seriously eroded.

(4) The rehabilitated spillway - floodwaters are now channelled to a 1,5m gabion weir and the energy of the falling water is dissipated on gabion mattresses in front.
