Reservoirs Small reservoirs are very useful for irrigation of vegetable gardens. Reservoirs may either be built above the ground or alternatively sunken into the ground. An advantage of the sunken reservoir is that it may be used to 'harvest' rain water that runs off the ground. This run-off is directed via small channels or berms to the inlet of the reservoir.
