Abrasion Resistance Investigations
Dams for Africa have wide experience in the field of abrasion resistance, including the abrasion resistance of concrete pavers. In his earlier career Dr Nicholas Papenfus managed a concrete paving factory for thirteen years, during which time he gained an in-depth knowledge of the mechanical & electrical workings, and PLC controls, of various concrete paving plants. During this time he also initiated a study into the abrasion resistance of concrete pavers, for which he was awarded a PhD from the University of the Witwatersrand in 2002 following the submission of a thesis entitled 'Abrasion wear, abrasion resistance, and related strength characteristics in concrete, with special reference to concrete pavers'.
Dr Papenfus' understanding of the complete production process together with his civil engineering background and specialization in concrete has allowed him to successfully analyse abrasion failures on a number of sites where large quantities of pavers were installed, as well as assist several paving companies to improve the abrasion resistance of their products.
Dr Papenfus has conducted seminars and presented papers at international conferences on the topic of abrasion resistance.
If you are a manufacturer wanting to increase the abrasion resistance of your products or if you are an asset owner who is concerned about the poor performance of a concrete floor or paving installation Dr Nicholas Papenfus will be glad to assist (see CONTACT PAGE).
